Dr. Beyer ("Tim") has been passionate about mental health and wellness since his younger sister, Amy, was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1977. Tim has felt impassioned to help young people avoid the worst medical outcomes of serious mental health problems. He is equally impassioned to educate people, in particular families of those most directly affected, about the medical perspective on such problems as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Developmental Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety, Mood and Cognitive disorders, including both thought disorders and Major and Minor neurocognitive disorders. Substance abuse problems as they affect individuals and their social networks have also been a focus of care and evidence-based treatments and strategies for symptom reduction. Suicidal and self-harm tendencies are an area of specialization that Tim devotes as much time and energy as possible to improving. Tim especially enjoys coordinating the team-centric approach to most serious mental health disorders, enhancing and ensuring communication between family members and the individuals most directly affected, as well as the primary care teams addressing the individuals and groups involved; schools involved, in the case of children and adolescents; and specialists involved, including psychotherapists, who are indispensible (in the view of the "medical model") to the person's well-being and health as they move forward. Psychotherapeutic modes such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Eye-movement Desensitization/re-processing (EMDR), Tim has sought training in, but isn't certified, technically, as provider of. Psychopharmacology is an area of in-depth training, experience and appropriate utilization, for which Tim has well over twenty-five years of professional experience and intensive training in.
